In Vino (done right this time) + Best Tiramisu Ever?

In channeling the extraordinary Jay-Z, “Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Kat, oh, K to the A-T.” That’s Fatty Kat to be exact! Enough rhymes. I don’t want to put Jay-Z out of business now…

So I’ve disappeared for a long time. Have you notice? It’s been 35 days since my last real-ish post. I had to delete that post with the YouTube videos, because Andrew thought I was on something while he watched them. How embarrassing! No, Andrew, I was not on anything. However, I most likely had a food coma in typical Fatty Kat style.

Why did I disappear? Well, let’s just say it was a combination of the usual things. Key words: Thailand, China, school (almost done!), laziness, dancing, HBS and (most importantly) a new job. Well, it’s not the newest of jobs, but I’m back at BLT Fish as a bartender. Getting the job was my antidote for anticipating too much free time this semester. But it turns out that I hardly have any free time now! But alas, here I am! Back with you, all my lovely food babies.

Yes, this actually happened! Expect a long overdue “Food in Thailand” post real soon.

One of my recent outings and nomz sessions was to In Vino with none other than Miss Rachael Bova. Initially, we just wanted to find a wine bar with some light snacks. Terroir was packed, so we made our way to In Vino, which has more of an Alphabet City vibe than that of the East Village (#samedifference). Our light snacking turned into a full-blown 3-course meal. Can someone say “duh.” Fatties?

I love the earthy, wine-cellar feel of this cozy restaurant, which I’d guess could seat approximately 30 guests at a time. With wood columns, stucco, and bar seating, it’s no wonder I loved this place from the start. The room is dimly lit and romantic enough for a date (with Miss Bova). Probably not the best place for groups.

We started our snack session with the Carpaccio di Manzo, which is a simple dish of beef carpaccio, arugula, lemon dressing, and shaved parmigiano! Traditional and delicious, but nothing to rave about in the NYT if you know what I mean. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with arugula. It’s an amazing green with so much of its own distinct flavor and crunchy texture.

Next came the Orecchiette with spicy Italian sausage and broccoli rabe. Again, this dish was very basic and traditional, but it hit the spot just perfectly. The portion looked smaller than it actually was, because I couldn’t even finish it (and you know how I feel about wasting food). Now the pasta didn’t seem homemade, but I’m not one to fret about that. The orecchiette dish wasn’t refined, but if I had a cute and intrusive Italian grandmother, THIS is what she would cook me for dinner!

Okay, so SHAME ON ME! I was such a fatty about the tiramisu that Rachael and I devoured it before I even thought about taking a picture. Bad Fatty Kat! Control yourself! Trust me, In Vino’s tiramisu is absolutely divine, particularly in the world of casual Italian food . I’ve had so many mediocre-to-good tiramisu desserts (i.e. think Crispo or Rocco Ristorante), but this one definitely through me for a loop. Miss Italiano (Rachael) was SUPER impressed too, and obviously her word counts for more when talking about Italian food.

Yay! I’m back! I hope you guys missed me. Probably lost some weight in the last 35 days too, huh? I’m sure you missed my enticing food pictures and lame jokes!

P.S. I updated my “To Do” list! Now, who wants to take me to Annisa tonight? Hehe…
